Grand Rapids is a city of character built on wood, and that wood is aging. From the towering Queen Annes and Greek Revivals of Heritage Hill to the solid bungalows and foursquares scattered across Eastown, East Hills, and the West Side, nearly every neighborhood in this city was built before 1978, and nearly every one sits in the path of lake-effect snow and the freeze-thaw cycles that come with it.
When ice dams back up water into fascia and soffits, when sill plates soften from decades of moisture, or when a floor joist starts to give under your feet, that is when homeowners in Grand Rapids call us. We have been doing residential carpentry here since 2016, and we know what this climate does to wood.
Carpentry in Grand Rapids (49503)
Grand Rapids sits about 30 miles inland from Lake Michigan in the lake-effect snow belt. That means long snowy winters, ice dams that back water into eaves, and hard freeze-thaw cycles that crack and rot exterior trim. The summers are humid. The Grand River and its wooded ravines frame the neighborhoods, and that shade keeps moisture in the air and in the wood. Add a century of settling, and you have the conditions that drive most of the carpentry work we do: wood rot in fascia, soffits, and sill plates; soft floors from wet rim joists and subfloors; carpenter ants in damp framing; and the slow failure of load-bearing walls and floor joists that were never designed to last this long.
Our team has been serving Grand Rapids and the surrounding area since 2016. We repair and replace structural carpentry, finish carpentry, and everything in between. We explain what we find, propose repair when the wood justifies it, and price the work honestly.

How a Job Works in Grand Rapids
You call us at (616) 504-6094 or reach out online. We schedule a free on-site assessment at your property in Grand Rapids or the surrounding area. We look at the damage, take photos, explain what we see, and give you a realistic estimate. If the job requires a permit (structural work, load-bearing alterations, or exterior decks commonly do), we tell you that upfront and explain what to expect.
Once you approve the estimate, we show up and do the work. We protect your floors and landscaping, work around tight lot access if that is what your neighborhood demands, and coordinate with any HOA if one applies to your property. We use quality materials: Douglas fir and redwood for exterior work, solid lumber for structural repairs, and trim that matches what is already there.
When the work is done, we clean up the site, walk through the finished job with you, and answer any questions. Your property is left clean and the work is behind you.
Wood rot repair in fascia or sills starts at $650. Termite damage repair to floor joists or rim boards starts at $1,200. A full subfloor or joist replacement can run $1,800 and up, depending on the size of the affected area and how much of the structure needs to come out. Structural work like beam replacement or removing a load-bearing wall starts at $3,500 and often costs more, because it commonly requires engineering and a permit. Finish work is less expensive: interior door installation runs $350 to $850, crown molding and baseboard installation start at $450, and custom built-ins or shelving start at $1,900. The real cost drivers are the size of the job, how much of the structure is damaged, whether the wood can be repaired or has to be replaced, and how accessible the work is. Call us at (616) 504-6094 for a free estimate. We will walk you through the pricing and explain what the work includes.
